The Wheeler Centre: Books, Writing, Ideas
The Wheeler Centre: Books, Writing, Ideas is an initiative of the Victorian Government.
The Victorian Writers' Centre moved into the new Wheeler Centre in October 2009. The Wheeler Centre is a hub for writing and literary organisations including:
- Victorian Writers' Centre
- Emerging Writers' Festival
- Melbourne Writers Festival
- Express Media
- Australian Poetry Centre
The Wheeler Centre is housed in the State Library of Victoria, with street frontage along Little Lonsdale St. The facilities currently include meeting rooms, open-plan work areas, workshop spaces, a public presentation space for up to 200 people and public access to the Victorian Writers' Centre and Australian Poetry Centre library collections. Also planned are “hot desks” for short-term use by writers and organisations, a cafe and a bookstore.
