Fellowships

Fellowships cover the cost of a residency at a studio for a period of time. Readings bookshop has generously sponsored a fellowship at Glenfern in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. The Grace Marion Wilson Trust also sponsored a fellowship in 2009.

2010 Glenfern Writers' Studio Residencies - applications are now closed

As a result of another generous donation from the Readings Foundation, the Victorian Writers’ Centre offered two six-month residencies for studio space at Glenfern in 2010:

  • The Readings Glenfern Writers’ Studio Residency for a Mid-Career Writer is offered for a writer who is established, with a proven track record of published prose, poetry or works written for performance.

  • The Readings Glenfern Writers’ Studio Residency for an Emerging or Developing Writer is offered for a writer working on their first or second work.

Applications closed 1 March.

Past fellowships

2008 Readings Glenfern Fellowship

Awarded to Jason Cotter for work on a novel that "... explores the vibrancy and tragedy of Warlpiri community life through the friendship of a senior first-contact Warlpiri man and a young laconic white man; a desert romance; and the beauty and restrictions of disparate cultures. The novel explores themes of identity, responsibility and complicity ... and a modern Australia at odds with its past and the secrets at its centre." The novel's manuscript was shortlisted in the HarperCollins Varuna Awards and chapters have won or been commended in Victoria and Queensland as short stories.

2007 Readings Glenfern Fellowship

Awarded to Sean Dooley, comedian and author of The Big Twitch. Sean used the fellowship for work on two books, the first of which, Anoraks and Zitting Cisticola, was published by Allen & Unwin in October 2007. The second book, Cooking with Baz, is due for publication in late 2008.
