Congratulations to the winners and runners up of our Grace Marion Wilson Emerging Writers Competition.
Timothy Robinson won the Short Story category for his entry “Henry Stanfield Can Fly”, while Lindy Alexander took away the Creative Non-fiction prize for “Hiding from the World”. In second place for fiction was Melanie Cheng for “Stone Baby”, and Lorna Hendry came second in Creative Non-fiction for “Killing the Dogs”. Commended entrants include Sarinah Hope for “The Second Marriage”; Julie Twohig for “The Glove” and Kate Rotherham for “Here and There”.
Commended authors receive a year’s VWC membership.

Publishing – The Whole Shebang, presented by the Melbourne Writers Festival, is on this Friday 27 August. Hosted by Peter Donoughue (VWC board member), other guests include Penguin’s Bob Sessions and Text Publishing’s Michael Heyward, Sue Hines and Aviva Tuffield, Toni Jordan and Christopher Milne, and representatives of the Australian Poetry Centre, Australian Society of Authors, Melbourne PEN, Express Media and SPUNC.
This is a great opportunity to network, learn about grants, editing, writing and, well, the whole shebang!

The 2010 Doris Leadbetter Poetry Cup Winners announced
Congratulations go to Anna Fern who is the winning poet of the 2010 Doris Leadbetter Poetry Cup receiving the mega prize of $2000. Other wonderful poets to note are Luka Haralampou as runner up receiving $300, and Bronwyn Lovell and Sharne Vate who received the encouragement awards of $100 each.

VWC Emerging Writers Comp: winners notified in mid-August
Winners of the 2010 Grace Marion Wilson Trust Emerging Writers Competition will be notified by mid-August and announced in September, then published inthe October issue of Victorian Writer magazine.
The VWC is pleased as punch to announce a huge increase in entries to the competition from last year. In 2010 there were 144 fiction entries and 48 non-fiction entries.

The Victorian Writers’ Centre is delighted to announce the appointment of Roderick Poole as its new Director and CEO. Roderick has an excellent background in arts management including his roles as the founding Artistic Director & General Manager of the acclaimed international performance group, Strange Fruit. VWC Chair Chris Thompson said that “in a strong field of candidates, Roderick stood out for his clear and articulate vision of the way the Victorian Writers’ Centre will develop over the next several years.” Roderick takes up his new position with the Victorian Writers’ Centre from 5 July. Thanks to the support of the Grace Marion Wilson Trust, the Victorian Writers’ Centre is pleased to announce the second year of its writing competition.
Closing date: 14 June 2010
The competition is open to Victorian residents, with entries sought in two categories: short story and creative non-fiction.
Entries will be independently judged by established writers (tba).
Prizes in each category are 1st $750, 2nd $250, plus three additional shortlist prizes of a one-year VWC membership. Winning entries will also be published in a special edition of Victorian Writer (anticipated October–November 2010).
Works should be 2000–3000 words. Entry is free but an official entry form is required. Winners in our previous competition (1st and 2nd prize) are not eligible to re-enter.
