After a highly competitive round of applications, we are delighted to announce the 2009 Glenfern Writers’ Studio Fellowships.

Readings Foundation Studio Fellowship for a Mid-career Writer

Paul Mitchell

Paul is an experienced short story writer, poet and essayist. He has won or been shortlisted for many competitions for his poetry and short stories. Paul is completing athird draft of his novel, set in the Wimmera District of Victoria in the 1950s and the present. He received Australia Council Funding in 2007 to complete the first drafts.

Fiona Wood

Fiona is a successful script writer, having written for Something in the Air, Marshall Law, Always Greener, MDA, The Secret Life of Us, Headland, Neighbours, Packed to the Rafters, and children’s dramas Sleepover Club and Silver Sun. Fiona is currently working on a novel for young readers, for which she received the 2008 Eleanor Dark Fellowship for Fiction to work on the manuscript.

Grace Marion Wilson Trust Studio Fellowship for an Emerging Writer

Demet Divaroren

Demet has completed a PWE diploma at Victoria University. Her story ""Toey" won the 2007 People’s Choice Award at the Williamstown Literary Festival and her story "You no have English" was published in Island magazine in 2008. Demet has completed the third draft of her novel "Orayt?", and is working on her second novel "Philter".

Christine James

Christine has a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and has worked as both a clinical and forensic psychologist. This background is being put to use in a manuscript that is evolving from a traditional crime story to a psychological thriller.

Hoa Pham

Hoa has had short stories published in HEAT, Griffith Review, Borderlands and in various University of Melbourne anthologies. In 2008, she completed a Masters in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne. Hoa is working on a novel about a 25-year-old Vietnamese woman, tracing her growing awareness of suffering on both sides of the Vietnam/American War, suffering in Australia, and the need for compassion everywhere.
