Creativity in Practice: Journey and Life Writing
Saturday 15 May 2010 - Sunday 16 May 2010
This course is for people who are interested in writing journey narratives—fiction, travel or life stories—who would like to enter and capture their stories in a creative way. To invite the Muse, says Alice Walker, you need to make room. A weekend of inspiring yet practical writing and creativity exercises, readings, discussion and workshopping equips students with ways and tools to break through creative blocks, and balance their creative and critical selves. We’ll look at writing craft: making things new, generating raw material, time travelling through memory and emotion to create believable characters and their “moments of being”.
Beth Yahp has published a prize-winning novel and libretto, short stories and feature articles in Australia and internationally. A highly-regarded teacher of creative writing in Paris, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney, she is currently writing a travel memoir as part of her Doctorate of Creative Arts at the University of Technology, Sydney.
