Research for Fiction Writers
Tuesday 20 April 2010 - Wednesday 21 April 2010
So you have an idea for a story but don’t know where to start? Arnold will draw upon thirty years experience as an author, to explore the many types of research that enable the writer of both fiction and non-fiction to create powerful characters, scenes and stories. Research literally means, ‘look again.’ Arnold will look at both sides of the equation, both research and direct its application to writing, and the writing itself. Good research, whether drawing upon memory, journeys, archives, letters, conversations, memoirs, diaries, or newspapers of the day, enable the writer to create scenes that are nuanced, textured, imaginative and credible. It enables the writer to paint with words. The workshop will include writing exercises, discussion, and time for questions.
Arnold Zable is an award-winning writer, educator and storyteller. His books include Jewels and Ashes and The Fig Tree, and three novels, Café Scheherazade, Scraps of Heaven, and most recently, Sea of Many Returns.
