The Assessor, the Mentor and the Editor.
Wednesday 24 March 2010, 6:30PM - 8:00PM
To get a manuscript to a publishable standard, it is essential to seek advice from a pair of expert eyes, but which expert is the best for you and why do you need these experts in the first place. Join Sydney Smith and Michael Nolan as they discuss the benefits and different aspects of the writer’s relationships with assessor, mentor and editor.
Sydney has been a manuscript assessor and mentor of genre and literary fiction for 10 years, and is coordinator of the Victorian Mentoring Service for Writers (VMSW) home.vicnet.net.au/~wayland/. Michael is a senior editor at Penguin. He is a former editor of the VWC members’ newsletter, feature writer for Black+White magazine and speechwriter for the Lord Mayor. He hosts the Melbourne Writers Festival Club, presents Hypotheticals at the Emerging Writers Festival, and is MC of Babble’s spoken word Liner Notes editions.
Held in conjunction with the Society of Editors (Vic)
