The Year of Poetry: How to Build a Poem
Sunday 14 March 2010 - Sunday 14 November 2010
Writing poetry can provide an outlet for the creative self, a method for wresting order from chaos, an access to the silent interior. Writing poetry can be a source of witness, of wonder, of wellbeing. But what is the foundation of a poem? What are its windows and walls? How does one come up with a design that is unique, sustainable and strong? And how can one make sure that the whole thing doesn't come tumbling down when the roof is finally put on? Over the course of the year these sessions provide a warm and informal discussion-based environment to discover a variety of techniques by which to clarify and fortify your skills as an architect in the strange and beautiful world of poetics. Participants will be expected to work on a series of poems over the year.
Jordie is an award-winning poet who has published six collections of poetry. She has worked as a mentor for over ten years, and has taught poetry at various universities, TAFES and schools.
