Working as a freelance writer can be the most exciting of career paths. Interviewing people, hearing their stories and writing your own is extremely satisfying – and yes, you can make a good living. However, freelancing can be also be fraught with peril – breaking into new markets, tax/BAS issues, late-paying media and hyper-aggressive PR staff pushing their client angle can all take their toll. This is an energetic two-part seminar that aims to assist participants to get out there and succeed. Topics include identifying paying markets, establishing positive editorial relationships, balancing your work-life, handling business issues, and sourcing ideas and interviewees. Bring examples of your work, an open mind, a flexible approach and loads of questions!
Alison Aprhys is an experienced freelance journalist and photographer and her work has appeared in many print and online newspapers and magazines. She has lectured at freelance conferences and TAFE, university and adult education courses.
Louise Connor is the Victorian secretary of the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance. She is a journalist by profession and spent three years freelancing before returning to work for the MEAA union in late-2002.

Bookings are not confirmed until payment is made. Refunds will only be given where a cancellation is made three working days prior to an event.
