Writing for the Web – Part 1
Tuesday 18 May 2010, 6:30PM - 8:00PM
Join writers Max Barry and Mel Campbell as they discuss the evolution of writing and language, the transition as a writer from print media to the web, and the strengths and challenges and broadening opportunity of writing in the digital age.
After the publication of his novels Syrup, Jennifer Government, and Company, Max Barry turned to the web for the real-time serial Machine Man, which was delivered to readers one page per day via email and mobile phone. The serial attracted offers from publishers in Australia and the US and was acquired for film by Mandalay Pictures. Max is also the creator of the online game NationStates, which has been played by over two million people.
Mel Campbell is a journalist, blogger and cultural critic. She is a co-founder of Is Not Magazine and currently runs the online pop-culture magazine The Enthusiast.
Anna Kelsey-Sugg is a web journalist for the Australian Education Union, publications manager at the VWC and editor of online creative writing journal ‘one-eighth vulture’. She has written for numerous print and online publications including The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian.
